Health Testing
Why we do it, why it's important, what it means for your puppy.
Genetic Testing
What is it?
Genetic testing is an in depth look at the genetic makeup. We use Embark DNA testing that tests not only for breed-specific genetic conditions as well as hundreds of other genetic traits & diseases.
Why is it important?
We are not only breeding to share the companionship and love of a Labrador, we are also very diligent to produce puppies that will uphold the integrity of the breed in temperament, composition and genetic health.
What does all that mean?
This means you can feel assurance that your puppy won't be affected by any health genetic diseases.
Genetic Testing Results
Tanis:
Fully cleared of breed specific genetic conditions + 190 other genetic conditions.

Rook:
Carrier - non affected : HNPK (Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis) - this condition causes the skin of the nose to be overly thick and shingle-like if affected.
What this means: Rook carries a recessive gene that will never affect him or his offspring. If you are considering Rook as a stud for your female, your female MUST be clear of the HNPK variant to be approved for breeding.

He is fully cleared of all other breed specific genetic conditions + 213 other genetic conditions.
PennHip Evaluations
We have chosen to use PennHip evaluations as a standard in our program for hips. After extensive conversations with our veterinarian, we feel that these are the most scientific and accurate measurements for Hip Dysplasia susceptibility/laxity. PennHip is based on specific measurements taken during a number of compression tests. These measurements are then scored on a breed-specific scale.
